This Week in Home Entertainment Releases

August 8, 2017

This weeks notable home entertainment releases include King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (directed by Guy Ritchie, starring Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law) and Snatched (starring Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn).

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
Synopsis:
Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur’s journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur’s uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy…whether he likes it or not.

Thoughts:
Known for his quick witted, stylized heist films, Guy Ritchie tackles the story of King Arthur in this fantasy filled action adventure. Ritchie embraces the over the top fantastical elements and makes a loud, effects driven film. Charlie Hunnam stars as the title role and does great work here. Regardless of the films quality, Hunnam continues to quietly build an impressive resume thanks to his consistency. Jude Law plays the sinister uncle who wants to gain complete power by relinquishing Arthur of his King status.

The story being told here is nothing new but the epic, action packed set pieces are fresh and give new context to the original idea. The script itself isn’t always told as neatly as it’d like but for what the film is trying to do it succeeds thanks to the characters and the over the top, outrageous action that happens enough to provoke a sense of excitement from the viewers.  With tons of familiar faces in the cast (including cameos from Ritchie himself and David Beckham) and some fun to be had, King Arthur: Legend of the Sword embraces its campiness and makes for a worthy watch.

Special Features:
– Arthur with Swagger
– Sword from the Stone
– Parry and Bleed
– Building on the Past
– Inside the Cut: The Action of King Arthur
– Camelot in 93 Days
– Legend of Excalibur
– Scenic Scotland

Snatched

Synopsis:
After her boyfriend dumps her on the eve of their exotic vacation, impetuous dreamer Emily Middleton (Amy Schumer) persuades her ultra-cautious mother, Linda (Goldie Hawn) to travel with her to paradise. Polar opposites, Emily and Linda realize that working through their differences as mother and daughter – in unpredictable, hilarious fashion – is the only way to escape the wildly outrageous jungle adventure they have fallen into. Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn star in the new comedy adventure Snatched, which also features Ike Barinholtz (“Neighbors“), Wanda Sykes (“Bad Moms“) and Joan Cusack (“Working Girl“).

Both King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and Snatched are now available on blu ray, dvd, and available to stream on all major video on demand platforms (Amazon, YouTube, Xbox, PlayStation).
